Purpose of Music Videos

- promotes an image of an artist
- helps create a 'star image' for new performers
- develops images for more established artists
- entertains an audience
- iconography indicates genre of music and style

Different Styles

Performance:
Close ups of the performer, direct addresses to engage the audience, different outfits

Narrative:
A story is created , sometimes the lyrics don't match the visuals at all. The artist doesn't feature at all, there are just actors.

Conceptual:
They are based around an idea or image

Narrative:
A story where an elephant attempts to reunite with his best friends after unfortunate separation.


Performance:
DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil' Wayne sing and dance throughout their song.


Conceptual:
An idea that maybe the way Coldplay perform is similar to the way chimpanzees move.
