How far do you agree that the two videos you have studied are conventional for the genre? (Pop)

From viewing Little Mix's 'Black Magic', it is evident to see many pop conventions. An example of this is the wide shot of Little Mix walking down the corridors lined up. The effect of this is having Little Mix being portrayed as a group and the center of attention which promotes a star image, a good way of showing the audience the togetherness of the group. This is good for the record label as it makes the band more iconic.
Additionally, within The Vamps' music video, 'Somebody to You', bright lighting, colours and the mise-en-scene reflects the atmosphere, which is conventional to pop music. An example of this is the beach setting in the music video, where the natural light and water setting collide. The effect of this shows the audience that The Vamps' are an upbeat fun teenage group. This can make them very likeable and popular.
Overall, I would agree that the two music videos discussed above are conventional to the genre of pop. Many conventions such as bright, natural lighting reinforce the message that pop music portrays as it sets an upbeat atmosphere which can be key in creating personality for the artists.
